The Global Child LLC

The Global Child serves children ages 6 weeks to 5 years

Infants & Toddlers
The Infant/Toddler curriculum utilizes a relationship-based, responsive care giving approach with learning and development taking place through daily routines and specially individualized activities for the children and the group. The responsive approach is based on principles outlined in the CT Early Learning and Development Standards. The information is used to create classroom activities as well as address individual strengths and weaknesses of each child. This information is always available to parents.

Playtime, rest, music and movement, stories, art activities, water play, exploration, outdoor fun and lots of love make up the infant/toddler day with an aim towards the support of personal and social growth, language development and independence skills. Teachers provide a setting which allows children to be creative and to explore their environment through their senses, by physically moving about and through social interaction with others.

The Global Child staff currently use the Early Learning and Development Standards which is used by the Norwich public school
programs. ELDS guidelines are used to develop lesson plans as well as the assessment tool to measure the progress of the children in the program.

This information is always available to parents. Formal progress reports at conferences are provided three times per year. A conference can be requested by the parent at any time if questions arise. If you are interested in learning more about literacy activities please ask the teacher’s for resources.

Throughout the day children are given opportunities to participate in various Learning Centers that are designed with age appropriate activities and choices. During the “activity time”, children move freely around daily planned activities; such as art, science, social studies, technology water play, cooking, stories, puppets, sensory play, block building, music and movement and dramatic play. During the morning children also participate in a “circle time” that allows them to learn about their world through teacher directed activities.

NAEYC Accreditation
At The Global Child we are proud of having achieved accreditation from NAEYC, and to be recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards. NAEYC Accreditation lets families in our community know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experiences possible. The Global Child’s early childhood philosophy is based on the thought that children learn best by doing. Since young children “learn through play,” they need opportunities to handle materials, experiment, explore, interact with others, think and participate. A carefully organized and age appropriate classroom environment serves as the foundation for the curriculum. The environment invites children to observe, make choices, and experiment. Each environment is unique in that it captures the interests of children involved. Children use all of their senses as they explore and learn about their world. Our goal is to nurture individual children’s physical, social, emotional, language, and intellectual development and to help them become enthusiastic, self-

confident, independent thinkers. We do this through the intentionality of our curriculum planning goals and daily activities. We strive to address the needs of each child that enters the program.
